I have sought outlets for my creative energy as far back as my childhood memories take me.  I can remember fashioning dollhouse furniture from tin cans, scissors and the key from a can of Spam.  I thought seriously about studying art but my practical side pulled to nursing school.

As an adult, my need to be creative was satisfied through decorative painting, quilting, counted cross-stitch and paper cutting.  The more intricacy and technical skill required in the art form, the more satisfaction I derived.  For me metalsmithing was originally a dalliance.  Today it is the primary focus of all those creative energies and my passion. My studio is my refuge.  It is the place where I can let go of all that daily stuff and just lose myself in the creative.

I think of my work as an evolution of an idea.  It all begins with an individual inspiration.  Inspiration comes from a wide variety of sources- a great piece of tree bark, a stone, or the geometry of a building.  I rarely plan a detailed design from beginning to end. I tend to be a more intuitive designer, letting the piece develop as I work.

Until recently, my metalsmithing was a very selfish pursuit.  I was centered in the process and less in the end product.  The final pieces were not for sharing.  I am ready now.  I want to share with others the product of my passion.
